100% Pure You

In my teens, I wondered…“could I grow up to be an actress?

In my 20s, I wondered…“could I grow up to be a professor?

In my 30s, I wondered…“could I grow up to be a founder or CEO?”

As I face-off with my 40s, I still wonder sometimes…

Do you?

On the Magnetism of Authenticity and Confidence

Last month, I had the pleasure of watching Marc Maron perform live here in Bend. Sitting in a dark theater, enjoying his relentless 90 minutes of stand-up, I wondered at his ability to command the room and be 100% himself.

Unequivocally. Unapologetically. Confidently

If you are not familiar with Marc Maron, he is a bitterly honest and irreverent stand up comic who's also been successful as an actor, writer, podcaster and musician.

But no matter what jobs he has, he always gets people to listen, laugh, cringe, and think differently, because Marc is a disruptor.

Disruptor:

One who takes uncomfortable and risky actions to shake up the status quo, to raise awareness, and to build power.

Now if you’re reading this and thinking, “but that’s not who I am…” that’s okay!  But do you know who you truly are?

Accessing Authenticity and Confidence to Lead

If you are like most professionals and spent your last decade or so learning how to be ‘responsive’ and ‘adaptable’ in a variety of jobs, you might not have spent much time working on the ‘who I truly am’ part.

But those who do are magnetic, and you’ve probably encountered some of them...

Their imperfect authenticity inspires others to pay attention to them.

Their consistency makes others trust them.

Their unique way of understanding the world motivates others to follow them.

Their unwavering confidence allows people to challenge them.

So if you aspire to lead others and do impactful work, STOP thinking that the next job will make you more secure or the next promotion will make you more confident. It won’t.

Your most impactful work will emerge from doing the inner work that reveals:

What you value.

What you believe.

How you think.

How you show up.

…so you can be the leader you truly are.
